Build a trip to Chengdu
SKP Chengdu is a luxury retail complex whose principal commercial spaces are placed below ground beneath a large public landscape. At surface level, gardens, sculptural towers, water and open paths create the appearance of an urban park, while dramatic sunken plazas lead into a network of fashion, dining and cultural interiors. The design reverses the conventional department-store model by allowing greenery and public space to dominate the visible site. Its most recognizable elements are the tall illuminated bamboo-like structures that rise from the landscape and mark entrances to the underground world. Art installations and carefully controlled materials turn shopping circulation into a sequence of architectural scenes. SKP represents Chengdu’s recent experimentation with high-end retail, landscape urbanism and climate-conscious underground development rather than a traditional commercial street.
