Build a trip to Chengdu
Jinsha Site Museum protects the remains of a major ancient Shu settlement discovered in northwest Chengdu and dated largely to the late second and early first millennia BCE. Excavated building foundations, ritual areas, ivory, jade, bronze and gold objects reveal a complex society connected with the earlier Sanxingdui culture. The Relics Hall preserves part of the archaeological site beneath a broad modern roof, allowing layers of soil and artifact distribution to remain visible. The celebrated gold Sun and Immortal Bird ornament has become a symbol of Chengdu, while masks and ritual objects demonstrate distinctive beliefs and elite craftsmanship. Exhibitions connect Jinsha with changes in settlement, political authority and ceremonial practice across the Chengdu Plain. The museum’s combination of in-situ archaeology and refined artifacts makes it one of the clearest places to understand ancient Shu as an urban civilization rather than a mysterious collection of isolated treasures.
