Sichuan Museum is the province’s largest comprehensive museum, with collections covering archaeology, bronze culture, ceramics, painting, sculpture, Tibetan art and regional folk traditions. Galleries present the long history of the Sichuan Basin alongside objects from mountain and plateau communities across the province. Important holdings associated with artists such as Zhang Daqian add a major modern-art dimension to the archaeological and ethnographic collections. The institution shows Sichuan as a meeting place between central China, the southwest and Tibetan cultural regions. Ancient Shu material, Buddhist sculpture and minority textiles reveal cultural diversity shaped by geography and trade. Located near Huanhuaxi and Du Fu’s memorial landscape, the museum forms part of a broader cultural district and provides the provincial context needed to connect Chengdu’s famous archaeological sites with the history of Sichuan as a whole.
