Build a trip to Beijing
Beijing Planetarium is a major astronomy education institution whose original domed building opened in the 1950s as the first large planetarium in China. Its theaters use optical and digital projection to represent stars, planetary movement and deep-space phenomena, while exhibition galleries introduce telescopes, meteorites, space science and the history of observation. The newer wing expands the complex through modern glass architecture and multiple immersive theaters, creating a scientific campus beside the Beijing Zoo area. The institution connects ancient Chinese astronomy with contemporary astrophysics and space exploration. Displays explain how people measured time and mapped the heavens before modern instruments, then move outward toward the solar system, galaxies and cosmology. Physical specimens and interactive demonstrations give material form to subjects normally experienced only through images, while the dome theater preserves the planetarium’s distinctive ability to place an audience inside a simulated sky.
