White Cloud Temple is the principal historic center of the Quanzhen school of Daoism in Beijing and one of the most important active Daoist temples in China. Its courtyards contain gates, halls, altars and sacred images associated with major deities and immortals. Stone carvings, old trees and ritual spaces form a dense religious environment whose architecture developed through repeated imperial patronage and restoration. The temple is especially associated with Qiu Chuji, a leading Quanzhen master, and contains institutions linked with Daoist education and ordination. Folk customs, including symbolic practices around carved stone animals and seasonal fairs, coexist with formal liturgy. This combination of monastic authority, public devotion and urban tradition gives White Cloud Temple a central place in the religious history of the capital. Its axial halls also present a concentrated visual vocabulary of Daoist cosmology and sacred hierarchy.
