Build a trip to Xiamen
Huandao Road follows a long stretch of Xiamen’s southeastern coast, linking beaches, parks, viewpoints and urban neighborhoods. It is a route rather than one attraction, and walking, cycling and driving each reveal different sections and require different amounts of time. Sea haze, heat and weekend traffic affect the experience, while rental-bike rules and separated paths should be confirmed locally. Travelers should choose a defined segment—such as the coast near Baicheng or Huangcuo—rather than attempting the entire road in a short visit, and should stop only at safe, designated viewpoints. The road follows a varied coastal edge of beaches, rocky shores, villages, parks and views across the Taiwan Strait. Public art, planting and cycling infrastructure turn it into a continuous urban landscape rather than a purely transport corridor. Its changing sections reveal how Xiamen’s modern expansion has attempted to preserve visual and recreational access to the sea.
