Build a trip to Lijiang
Shuhe is a historic Naxi settlement and former Tea Horse Road stop north of Lijiang, organized around stone lanes, streams, bridges and a central market area. It is quieter and more spacious than the main old town in some periods, although cafés, guesthouses and retail now occupy much of the visitor core. Walking toward older residential sections and water sources gives a clearer sense of the settlement’s relationship with agriculture and caravan travel. Visitors should allow time for a broad circuit rather than remaining around the entrance, and should respect private courtyards that are not marked for public access. Shuhe’s springs and waterways supported an early settlement that became a stopping place for caravans moving through the Lijiang basin. Stone bridges, market spaces and workshops reflect trade in leather and other goods, while Naxi courtyard houses extend into agricultural edges. Its historical identity is therefore rooted in movement and craft as well as in the picturesque canal scenery seen today.
Puji Temple combines tibetan Buddhist temple setting, mountain forest surroundings, and calm cultural stop outside the old town in a practical Lijiang stop.
Quaint village in mountain foothills with bold murals & Ming Dynasty temples like Dabaoji Palace.
Museum celebrating regional Naxi heritage with paintings, tools, costumes & traditional dwellings.
A park immediately north of the old town, known for pavilion views toward Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
