Build a trip to Lijiang
Puji Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in a forested setting northwest of Lijiang, away from the old town’s concentrated tourism. Courtyards, halls and religious imagery form an active spiritual environment, with a quieter scale that encourages careful observation rather than a long checklist of exhibits. Transport and access can be less predictable than at major scenic areas, and ceremonies or monastic routines may limit where visitors can enter. Modest dress, low voices and permission before photographing people or worship spaces are essential to experiencing the temple respectfully. The monastery belongs to the network of Tibetan Buddhist institutions established around Lijiang under the patronage of local rulers and communities. Painted halls, ritual objects and forest setting connect the site with religious traditions extending toward Tibetan cultural regions. Its modest scale and continued devotional role preserve a quieter expression of Lijiang’s spiritual history than the city’s major tourism complexes.
