Build a trip to Hangzhou
City Balcony is a broad, multi-level public terrace projecting toward the Qiantang River at the center of Qianjiang New Town. Stone plazas, landscaped decks, pedestrian ramps and viewing platforms create an open civic foreground for Hangzhou’s contemporary business district. Across the space stand two symbolic buildings: the golden spherical International Conference Center, often called the Sun, and the crescent-shaped Hangzhou Grand Theatre, known as the Moon. Their forms, together with surrounding towers, establish a deliberately monumental riverfront composition. The balcony expresses Hangzhou’s shift from a city visually centered on West Lake toward a second urban front along the Qiantang. Its long horizontal edge emphasizes the exceptional width of the river and the changing sky, while integrated lighting transforms façades across the district into coordinated nighttime imagery. The site also connects below-ground commercial areas, transit and civic buildings with riverside paths at several levels. Rather than imitating the city’s classical gardens, City Balcony uses scale, geometry and digital illumination to represent a newer Hangzhou shaped by finance, technology and eastward metropolitan expansion.
