Build a trip to Chengdu
Jinli Ancient Street is a reconstructed pedestrian district beside Wuhou Shrine that evokes the commercial culture of historical Chengdu and the Shu region. Timber façades, courtyards, stages and narrow lanes contain regional food, handicrafts and folk performances within an environment styled after traditional western Sichuan architecture. Lanterns and dense shopfronts create a theatrical atmosphere, while the connection with Wuhou Shrine gives the street a strong Three Kingdoms identity. The name Jinli has older associations with Chengdu’s reputation for brocade production and prosperous trade. Contemporary stalls present sugar painting, shadow puppetry, embroidery and snack traditions as visible forms of local culture, though much of the architecture is modern heritage interpretation. Its importance lies in the popular presentation of Chengdu’s craft, food and storytelling traditions rather than in the survival of one intact ancient marketplace.
