Aoyama Flower Market Tea House
A stunning 'greenhouse' cafe located inside a luxury florist. The interior is a lush jungle of seasonal flowers and vines, with glass tables that have fresh blooms tucked underneath. The menu focuses on fresh herbal teas, flower-infused sodas, and colorful parfaits decorated with edible petals. It is an incredibly peaceful, fragrant oasis in the middle of the busy Aoyama fashion district. Every week, the 'theme flower' of the cafe changes, transforming the decor. It is a highly sensory experience that is particularly popular for afternoon tea with friends.
Hie Shrine
Located in the heart of Tokyo's government district, this shrine serves as the guardian of the Imperial Palace. It is famous for its 'Senbon Torii'—a tunnel of 90 red gates winding up the hillside, offering a Kyoto-like aesthetic in the middle of Tokyo. The shrine is unique for its statues of 'Masaru' (monkeys), which are believed to provide protection and help with successful marriages and easy childbirth. Because it is built on a hill, the shrine is equipped with outdoor escalators, blending ancient spiritual tradition with modern urban convenience.
Suntory Museum of Art
Located in the Tokyo Midtown complex, this museum was designed by Kengo Kuma with a theme of 'Japanese Modernism' and 'Art in Life.' The interior utilizes traditional materials like paulownia wood and vertical louvers to create a warm, Zen-like atmosphere. The museum focuses on pre-modern Japanese crafts, including exquisite ceramics, lacquerware, and glass. It also features a traditional tea ceremony room where visitors can occasionally participate in a 'Chado' experience. Its location within Roppongi makes it an easy addition to a day of museum-hopping.
Florilege
Recently moved to the new Azabudai Hills, Florilege is a two-Michelin-starred restaurant that blends French technique with a deep respect for Japanese ingredients. Chef Hiroyasu Kawate is famous for his 'sustainability' focus, using ingredients like 'repurposed' beef. The dining room is centered around a massive open kitchen where guests sit at a counter, watching the chefs prepare dishes like theater. The menu is creative, modern, and visually stunning. It is frequently ranked on the 'World's 50 Best Restaurants' list and is a must-visit for those interested in the cutting edge of Tokyo's international food scene.
