Tamawarai (Harajuku)
Tamawarai is a one-Michelin-starred soba (buckwheat noodle) shop that takes 'craft' to the extreme. The chef grows his own buckwheat and hand-mills it daily to ensure the freshest flavor. The noodles have a unique, slightly coarse texture and a deep, earthy aroma that is far superior to standard soba. The shop is tucked away in a quiet residential alley in Harajuku. Highlights include the 'Atsumori Seiro' (warm noodles with a dipping sauce and raw egg) and their incredible 'Sobagaki' (buckwheat dough). Due to its fame and small size, expect a wait even before it opens.
AFURI Harajuku
AFURI revolutionized the ramen scene with its signature Yuzu Shio (Salt) Ramen, which uses a light, golden chicken and seafood broth infused with the bright, citrusy scent of Japanese yuzu. It is a refreshing departure from heavy pork-based ramens. The pork slices are grilled over charcoal right before serving, adding a subtle smoky aroma. Its stylish, minimalist interior and healthy options (including vegan ramen and konjac noodles) make it incredibly popular. The Harajuku branch is conveniently located near the station and Meiji Jingu.
Takeshita Street
The pulsating heart of Harajuku's teenage street fashion and 'Kawaii' (cute) culture. This 400-meter pedestrian street is a sensory overload of rainbow-colored crepes, animal-themed cafes, and boutiques selling everything from gothic lolita wear to oversized streetwear. It is globally recognized as a birthplace of Japan's boldest fashion trends. For a better experience, visit on a weekday morning to avoid the extreme weekend crowds, and don't miss the multi-story 'Daiso' for unique souvenirs.
Omotesando Hills
An upscale shopping complex designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, built on the site of the historic Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments. The interior features a unique 250-meter spiraling ramp that mimics the natural slope of the Omotesando avenue outside, allowing guests to walk continuously from the basement to the top floor. It houses luxury international brands and avant-garde Japanese designers. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece, emphasizing concrete, glass, and light, reflecting the 'Champs-Élysées of Tokyo' vibe.
