About
Located in the grand Historical Gallery of the National Gallery Singapore, this restaurant is a tribute to the rich culinary heritage of the Straits Settlements. Historically, it is led by Violet Oon, Singapore's most famous food ambassador. The sensory experience is one of opulent nostalgia—gilded mirrors, dark wood paneling, and intricate Peranakan tiles. The aroma of 'Rempah' (spice paste) and coconut milk fills the air. Experts recommend the 'Dry Laksa' and 'Beef Rendang' for their deep, authentic flavors. Practical pro tip: This is arguably the most beautiful dining room in Singapore; it is highly popular for business lunches and celebratory dinners, so book at least two weeks in advance. The outdoor terrace offers a more casual vibe with views of the Padang.

Odette
Named after chef Julien Royer's grandmother, Odette at the National Gallery Singapore has held three Michelin stars since 2019 and topped the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list, serving exquisite French cuisine in a dreamlike dining room of marble, flowers, and Flemish-inspired art that feels like dining inside a painting. Royer's tasting menus showcase impeccable technique and deeply personal storytelling, with dishes like white asparagus mimosa with Oscietra caviar and langoustine ravioli with bisque that demonstrate masterful respect for classical French cooking while incorporating Asian ingredients and flavors. The exceptional wine program focuses on natural and biodynamic producers from small European estates.
National Gallery Singapore
Occupying two iconic national monuments—the former City Hall and Supreme Court—the National Gallery Singapore is the world's largest public collection of modern Southeast Asian art. Historically, these buildings were the site of many milestone events in Singapore's path to independence. The sensory experience is a dialogue between grand neoclassical architecture and sleek modern glass-and-metal structures. The internal link bridge offers a dramatic view of the historic courtrooms. Experts recommend visiting the 'Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden' for a contemporary art installation paired with a panoramic view of the Padang and Marina Bay. Pro tip: Entry is free for citizens and permanent residents, but tourists should book tickets online to skip the queue. Allocate at least 3-4 hours to explore both the DBS Singapore Gallery and the UOB Southeast Asia Gallery.
Victoria Theatre
The Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall is a grand performing arts complex that dates back to 1862. Historically, the clock tower that joins the two buildings has become a symbol of colonial Singapore's civic pride. The sensory experience is one of classical elegance—ornate neoclassical facades, polished wood interiors, and world-class acoustics that have hosted the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for decades. Experts recommend taking a guided heritage tour to see the internal restoration that seamlessly blends modern glass with 19th-century stonework. Pro tip: The open plaza in front often hosts outdoor performances and is a perfect spot for photography with the nearby Singapore River. Check the performance schedule online to catch a free organ recital or a classical concert.
Asian Civilisations Museum
Nestled along the Singapore River in a grand neoclassical building, the ACM is the only museum in the region dedicated to exploring the artistic heritage of Asia. Historically, the building served as various government offices during the colonial era. The museum’s 'Tang Shipwreck' gallery is a world-class highlight, showcasing thousands of ceramics recovered from a 9th-century vessel. The sensory experience is one of quiet elegance and scholarly depth, featuring intricate gold jewelry, sacred sculptures, and exquisite textiles. Experts recommend the 'Scholar in Chinese Culture' gallery for its refined aesthetic. Pro tip: After your visit, enjoy a quiet walk along the river toward Clarke Quay; the museum often hosts evening 'after-hours' programs on the last Friday of the month with free performances and workshops.
