Sinsa-dong Garosu-gil
Build a trip to Seoul
About
Garosu-gil, which means 'tree-lined street,' is Seoul's equivalent to SoHo, known for its elegant gingko trees and upscale European-style vibes. Historically the artistic heart of Sinsa-dong, it has evolved into a premier destination for flagship stores, boutique fashion, and high-end cafes. The sensory experience is one of refined urban luxury—minimalist storefronts, the smell of freshly brewed specialty coffee, and impeccably dressed locals. Experts recommend exploring the 'Sero-su-gil' (side streets) to find smaller designer labels and hidden wine bars that are less commercial. Pro tip: Visit in the autumn (November) when the gingko trees turn a brilliant golden yellow, creating a stunning natural canopy for shopping and photography.

Hanchu Chicken (Sinsa)
Hanchu is a legendary 'hof' (pub) in the Sinsa-dong area that has gained a cult following for its unique 'Gochu-chicken' (pepper chicken). The batter contains bits of spicy green pepper, giving the fried chicken a subtle kick and a distinct aroma. However, the real star for many is the 'Gochu-twigim'—large green peppers stuffed with seasoned minced pork and deep-fried. The atmosphere is loud, cramped, and quintessentially Korean-pub style. Experts recommend ordering the fried chicken and stuffed peppers together for the ultimate 'Chimaek' experience. Practical pro tip: It gets incredibly crowded in the evenings; there is often a clipboard at the door for the waiting list. Don't expect fancy service—the focus here is purely on the fried goodness and cold beer.
Pro Soy Crab (Sinsa)
Pro Soy Crab has been a pioneer in serving 'Ganjang Gejang' (raw crab marinated in soy sauce) since 1980, attracting celebrities and foodies from across Asia. The dish features top-grade female crabs filled with creamy orange roe, marinated in a secret, decades-old soy sauce recipe that isn't overly salty. The sensory experience is hands-on and indulgent, as you squeeze the sweet, silken crab meat directly from the shell. Experts recommend the 'Rice Thief' method: mix warm white rice directly into the crab shell with the roe and a bit of marinade. Practical pro tip: This is a premium dining experience and can be expensive; if you are sensitive to raw seafood, they also offer excellent braised crab (Agujjim) and steamed monkfish.
Gaon
Gaon is a prestigious three-Michelin-starred restaurant (historically) that epitomizes the elegance of Korean 'Gwan-yo' (royal kiln) ceramics and royal court cuisine. The interior is a masterclass in Korean minimalism, designed to create a meditative space for appreciating the seasonal flavors of the peninsula. Each course is served on exquisite Kwangyo-yo pottery, emphasizing the philosophy that the vessel is as important as the food. The flavor profile is exceptionally clean, focusing on the natural depth of fermented ingredients. Experts recommend the signature tea pairing to enhance the subtle nuances of the meal. Practical pro tip: Reservations are essential and should be made at least one month in advance; the entrance is discreet, located inside the Horim Art Center.
Apgujeong Rodeo Street
Named after the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, this was Korea's first luxury fashion mecca in the 1990s. Today, it remains the center of high-end style, plastic surgery clinics, and elite nightlife. It is anchored by the Galleria Department Store, famous for its media-facade exterior. The atmosphere is one of glitz and exclusivity, with luxury supercars frequently seen on the streets. Experts recommend visiting 'K-Star ROAD' nearby, where you can see large art-toy bears (GangnamDols) representing K-pop groups like BTS and EXO. Pro tip: While many stores are prohibitively expensive, the area is fantastic for window shopping and people-watching; check out the 'Dosan Park' area nearby for the most avant-garde flagship stores like Gentle Monster.
