Jardin des Tuileries
Build a trip to Paris
About
Created by Catherine de' Medici in 1564 and later redesigned by André Le Nôtre, the Tuileries is the quintessential French formal garden. It stretches between the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde, featuring manicured lawns, gravel paths, and classical sculptures. The atmosphere is a blend of historical elegance and casual leisure, with locals reading in the iconic green metal chairs. Sensory highlights include the scent of chestnut blossoms in spring and the symmetry of the central 'Grand Allée.' Expert recommendation: Visit the Musée de l'Orangerie located in the southwest corner. Pro tip: During the summer, a large funfair (Fête des Tuileries) occupies the northern edge, perfect for families, while the ponds are great for renting miniature sailboats for children.

Le Meurice Alain Ducasse
Set within the legendary Le Meurice hotel, this two-Michelin-starred restaurant is a temple of French haute cuisine under the direction of Alain Ducasse. The dining room, inspired by the Salon de la Paix at Versailles, is a masterclass in Louis XVI style with grand chandeliers and frescoed ceilings. The food focuses on 'Essential Cuisine,' highlighting the raw purity of seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere is one of quiet, ultimate luxury. Expert recommendation: The tasting menu is a journey through French terroir, but the dessert by Cédric Grolet is the true showstopper. Pro tip: The dress code is formal (jackets for men); book at least a month in advance. For a slightly more casual (but still upscale) experience, try 'Le Dalí' located in the same hotel.
Angelina Paris (Rue de Rivoli)
Founded in 1903, Angelina is a historic tearoom that was once the haunt of Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn. The interior, designed by Belle Époque architect Édouard-Jean Niermans, features opulent gilding, marble tables, and grand mirrors. It is world-famous for its 'L'Africain' thick hot chocolate and its signature Mont-Blanc pastry. The atmosphere is one of old-world Parisian glamour and sweet indulgence. Expert recommendation: The Mont-Blanc, with its meringue heart and chestnut cream vermicelli, is the house icon. Pro tip: The line for the tearoom can be incredibly long; if you just want to taste the pastries, use the separate pastry counter at the entrance to buy them 'to go' and enjoy them in the nearby Tuileries Garden.
Musée d'Orsay
Housed in a grand former railway station, the Musée d'Orsay bridges the gap between the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou, focusing on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. The building itself is a work of art, featuring a magnificent Beaux-Arts clock and a soaring glass nave. Visitors can stand inches away from iconic works by Monet, Van Gogh, and Renoir. The sensory experience is defined by the soft natural light filtering through the roof. Expert recommendation: Go straight to the top floor (Level 5) to see the Impressionist gallery first, then work your way down. Pro tip: The museum is closed on Mondays; Thursday evenings offer late hours with significantly fewer tourists and a magical view through the giant clock face.
Musée de l'Orangerie
Located in the former orangery of the Tuileries Palace, this museum is the definitive home of Claude Monet’s 'Water Lilies' (Les Nymphéas). Eight massive murals are displayed in two oval rooms designed by the artist himself to provide a 'refuge of peaceful meditation.' The natural light entering through the ceiling creates an immersive, ethereal experience where the colors of the water change throughout the day. The lower level features the Walter-Guillaume collection of modern classics. Expert recommendation: Visit at the very beginning of the day to experience the Monet rooms in silence. Pro tip: Buy a combined ticket with the Musée d'Orsay to save money and skip the separate ticket line; they are only a short walk across the river from each other.
