Qixia Temple is an important Buddhist monastery at the foot of Qixia Mountain, where active halls, historic stone carvings and wooded slopes form one connected religious landscape. The nearby Thousand Buddha Cliff adds carved imagery from early periods, while later buildings reflect repeated restoration and continued worship. Autumn foliage draws exceptional crowds, but quieter seasons make the temple’s spatial sequence and devotional atmosphere easier to appreciate. Visitors should dress respectfully, avoid disrupting ceremonies and reserve extra time if continuing onto mountain paths, whose access and difficulty differ from the compact temple courtyards. The monastery has deep roots in the development of Buddhism in southern China and stands beside a cliff carved with hundreds of Buddhist figures. Halls and pagodas reflect later rebuilding, while the stone images preserve earlier religious art. Forest and autumn foliage surround the complex, reinforcing a long tradition in which mountain landscape and monastic retreat are inseparable.
