Build a trip to Lijiang
Lijiang Old Town Museum, commonly associated with the Mu family residence, interprets the political and cultural history of the hereditary rulers who governed the region under successive dynasties. Courtyards, halls, reconstructed interiors and elevated viewpoints present an official architectural axis quite different from the irregular lanes of the surrounding old town. Much of the complex has been restored, so the visit is strongest when historical explanation accompanies the visual grandeur. Climbing through the upper levels provides context for how the residence related to the town and nearby hills, but current entrance rules should be checked before arrival. The Mu family governed the region through a system that connected local Naxi authority with successive Chinese dynasties. The residence’s ceremonial halls, administrative spaces and gardens symbolize that political relationship, even though much of the visible complex reflects modern reconstruction. Its elevated axis also reveals how official architecture was set apart from the organic canals and lanes of the surrounding old town.
A UNESCO-listed Naxi old town whose dense pedestrian lanes work best as a broad route area rather than repeated micro-POIs.
A park immediately north of the old town, known for pavilion views toward Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
