Zhaojue Temple is a major Chan Buddhist monastery in northern Chengdu whose origins reach back to the Tang dynasty. Rebuilt halls, courtyards, pagodas and gardens form a large active complex associated with generations of eminent monks. Its position near routes toward western Sichuan helped connect Han Chinese Buddhist institutions with Tibetan and other regional traditions. The temple has served as a center of teaching, ordination and monastic exchange, giving it an influence greater than its visibility in standard city itineraries. Religious sculpture and ceremonial spaces reflect repeated restoration after periods of destruction, while continued worship maintains the compound as a living institution. Zhaojue’s importance lies in this long continuity of Buddhist practice and its role as a bridge between Chengdu and the wider spiritual geography of southwest China. Monastic courtyards and old trees preserve a secluded religious atmosphere within the expanding northern city.

Formerly the state-run Hongguang Electronic Tube Factory, this industrial heritage site has been transformed into a vibrant creative hub, often called the '798 of Chengdu.' It retains the gritty aesthetic of the 1950s Soviet-style factories, with rusted pipes, red-brick chimneys, and old steam locomotives
