Build a trip to Chengdu
Huanglongxi is a historic town south of Chengdu where waterways, stone-paved streets, temples and wooden shop houses preserve the structure of a regional river settlement. The old center developed around the confluence of streams and transport routes, with bridges and waterside buildings shaping a compact network of lanes. Dark timber façades, tiled roofs and courtyards create the visual identity now associated with the town, while active shops and residences keep the setting connected with contemporary life. Several temples and guild-related buildings reflect the religious and commercial communities that used Huanglongxi over many centuries. Water remains the organizing element of the landscape, flowing beside streets and through public spaces rather than appearing only as a scenic backdrop. The town’s fame in film and tourism has increased restoration and commerce, but its cultural foundation remains the relationship between river transport, market activity and settlement on the western Sichuan plain.
