Build a trip to Bali
About
The Slow is more than a hotel; it is a curated 'island stay' that serves as a gallery, record label, and dining room all in one. Designed by its owners with a brutalist-tropical aesthetic, the property features perforated brickwork, native wood, and an incredible collection of contemporary art. The sensory experience is deeply immersive, with a private soundtrack curated specifically for the space and a scent profile that evokes old-world travel. Experts recommend spending an evening at the bar to experience their innovative cocktails and the fashionable Canggu social scene. Pro tip: There are no televisions in the rooms, as the philosophy is to disconnect and engage with the art and music. Be sure to check their rotating art exhibitions in the gallery space.

Mason Canggu
Mason is the pinnacle of Canggu’s trendy dining scene, focusing on the fundamental elements of cooking: fire, smoke, and artisanal craftsmanship. The aesthetic is industrial-chic with concrete walls and an open-air terrace. The menu features house-cured meats, wood-fired vegetables, and hand-stretched cheeses, emphasizing high-quality local produce. The sensory experience is centered on the sights and smells of the open wood-fire grill and the lively, fashionable crowd. Experts recommend the wood-fired lamb shoulder and the house-made pickles. Pro tip: This is one of the hardest tables to get in Canggu; booking via their website is essential. If you can’t get a dinner slot, their lunch service is equally excellent and slightly easier to navigate.
The Lawn Canggu
Positioned right on the foreshore of Batu Bolong Beach, The Lawn has defined the Canggu lifestyle since its inception. It offers a seamless transition from a daytime seaside lounge to a sophisticated evening dining destination. The architectural highlight is the expansive lawn area and the pool that seems to merge with the ocean. The sensory experience is characterized by salty sea breezes, sunset hues, and curated soulful beats. Experts recommend the seafood grazing platters and their signature cocktails. Pro tip: Sunset is the peak experience here; book a daybed or a sunset table at least 48 hours in advance, as it is one of the most popular spots on the island to watch the surfers catch the final waves of the day.
Penny Lane
Penny Lane is an architectural marvel that blends Romanesque aesthetics with bohemian Balinese charm, featuring high glass ceilings, classical statues, and lush indoor palms. The restaurant offers an eclectic menu ranging from Moroccan-inspired dishes to classic burgers and schnitzels. The sensory experience is visually overwhelming in the best way possible, with art and greenery at every turn, creating a 'palace-like' atmosphere in the middle of Canggu. Expert recommendations include the loaded fries and their creative cocktail list. Pro tip: This is one of the most Instagram-famous spots in Bali; for the best photos without a crowd in your shot, visit for an early lunch around 11:00 AM. Despite the grand decor, the vibe remains casual and welcoming.
Canggu Beach (Batu Bolong)
Batu Bolong is the beating heart of Canggu’s surf culture, featuring a rugged coastline with dark volcanic sand and consistent waves that attract longboarders from around the globe. The beach is anchored by the iconic Old Man's bar and the nearby Batu Bolong Temple. The atmosphere is bohemian and energetic, with surfers, digital nomads, and locals mingling as the sun sets. The sensory experience includes the sight of hundreds of surfers dotting the horizon and the salty mist of the Indian Ocean. Experts recommend coming here for 'Magic Hour' to witness the incredible transformation from a surf hub to a lively nightlife scene. Pro tip: If you're a beginner, there are numerous surf schools right on the sand offering lessons; however, be mindful of the reef bottom at low tide.
