Jewel Changi Airport
Build a trip to Singapore
About
Jewel is a world-class multi-dimensional lifestyle destination that seamlessly links three of Changi Airport’s terminals. Its centerpiece is the 40-meter-tall HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Historically, it redefined the concept of an airport as a destination itself. The sensory experience is a futuristic jungle—the sound of rushing water, the scent of over 2,000 trees in the Shiseido Forest Valley, and the cool, climate-controlled air. Experts recommend the Canopy Park on the top level for the glass-bottomed Canopy Bridge. Pro tip: The waterfall light and sound show happens nightly at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM (plus 10:00 PM on weekends). If you have a layover of at least 5 hours, this is a must-visit, but remember to clear immigration first as it is located in the public landside area.

Mr Coconut (Jewel)
Mr Coconut has become a modern Singaporean sensation, known for its addictive coconut-based shakes and desserts. Historically originating from Malacca, it has taken Singapore by storm with its refreshing 'Coconut Shake.' The sensory experience at the Jewel branch is a perfect tropical cool-down—creamy, icy, and filled with bits of fresh coconut meat. Experts recommend the 'Coconut Shake' with 0% or 25% sugar to let the natural sweetness of the coconut shine through. Practical pro tip: The queue at Jewel can be long as it’s a popular 'grab-and-go' treat for travelers and locals alike; use the self-service kiosks to order faster. It’s the perfect companion while watching the Rain Vortex light show.
Pulau Ubin
Pulau Ubin is a living time capsule that represents Singapore as it was in the 1960s, home to the country’s last remaining 'kampongs' (villages). Historically, the island's name means 'Granite Island' in Malay, referring to its former quarrying industry. The sensory experience is a rustic adventure—gravel paths, dense mangroves, and the sight of wild boars and hornbills. Experts recommend renting a bicycle at the jetty to explore the Chek Jawa Wetlands, where you can walk along a coastal boardwalk to see rich marine biodiversity. Pro tip: Bring cash for the bumboat ($4 per person) and bicycle rentals; the island is notorious for mosquitoes, so apply heavy-duty repellent before setting off on the trails.
Jumbo Seafood (East Coast)
Since 1987, Jumbo Seafood has been a cornerstone of Singapore’s culinary identity, famous for perfecting the national dish: Chilli Crab. Located at the scenic East Coast Park, it offers a quintessential alfresco dining experience accompanied by the sound of waves and the salty sea breeze. The sensory experience is hands-on and indulgent; the giant mud crabs are served in a thick, sweet, and savory gravy enriched with egg and tomato. Experts recommend ordering 'Mantou' (deep-fried buns) to soak up every drop of the signature sauce. Practical pro tip: Reservations are mandatory, especially on weekends. To avoid the mess, the restaurant provides bibs and finger bowls, but it’s best to wear casual clothing you don't mind getting a splash of sauce on.
328 Katong Laksa
328 Katong Laksa is a local icon that became globally famous after winning a culinary challenge against Chef Gordon Ramsay. It specializes in 'Katong Laksa,' characterized by thick vermicelli noodles cut into short strands that are eaten solely with a spoon. The sensory experience is defined by the rich, coconut-milk-based broth infused with dried shrimp and topped with fresh cockles and laksa leaves. The atmosphere is casual, fast-paced, and filled with the aromatic steam of the laksa pots. Experts recommend trying the 'Otah' (grilled fish cake) as a side. Practical pro tip: The laksa is served piping hot, so be careful when eating; the shop is located in the charming Katong heritage area, perfect for a walk after a heavy, creamy meal.
