The Hyundai Seoul (Yeouido)
Build a trip to Seoul
About
The Hyundai Seoul is Korea’s largest and most revolutionary department store, redefining the retail experience by dedicating nearly half of its space to rest and greenery. Its signature feature is 'Sounds Forest,' a massive indoor garden under a natural light-flooded glass ceiling, accompanied by a 12-meter tall artificial waterfall. The atmosphere is more like an upscale botanical garden than a mall. The sensory experience is defined by airy, white architecture and the aroma of trendy artisan bakeries. Experts recommend the basement 'Tasty Seoul' floor, which houses the most popular food brands and pop-up stores in the city. Pro tip: It is incredibly popular on weekends; use the department store's app to pre-register for restaurant waiting lists to save hours of standing in line.

Yeouido Hangang Park
Located in the heart of Seoul's financial district, Yeouido Hangang Park is the city's premier riverside retreat. It offers vast green spaces, cycling paths, and the iconic 'I Seoul U' sculpture. Historically, it’s the site of the massive Cherry Blossom Festival in spring and the International Fireworks Festival in autumn. The sensory experience is defined by the cool river breeze and the sound of local buskers. Experts recommend renting a bicycle to explore the entire length of the park or trying 'Hanang Ramyeon' from a convenience store—cooking it in a self-service machine is a local rite of passage. Pro tip: For a quintessential Seoul experience, rent a picnic mat and order fried chicken delivery directly to your spot using the park's delivery zones.
Saemaul Sikdang (Hongdae)
Saemaul Sikdang is a beloved K-BBQ chain known for its nostalgic 1970s theme and its signature 'Yeontan Bulgogi'—thinly sliced pork marinated in a spicy sauce and grilled over charcoal. Another legendary dish here is the '7-minute Kimchi Jjigae,' which is boiled down into a thick, savory stew designed to be mixed with rice and copious amounts of dried seaweed. The atmosphere in Hongdae is young, smoky, and incredibly lively. Experts recommend the pork shoulder (Moksal) for a less spicy but equally delicious meat option. Practical pro tip: This is one of the best value-for-money BBQ spots in Seoul; it’s perfect for a late-night meal after exploring the Hongdae busking scene as it often stays open 24 hours.
Hongdae Walking Street
The epicenter of Seoul’s youth culture, Hongdae (named after Hongik University) is a breeding ground for indie music, street art, and fashion. The 'Walking Street' is famous for its outdoor busking zones where talented dancers, singers, and magicians perform every evening. The atmosphere is electric, fueled by the energy of students and creative souls. The walls are adorned with professional-grade graffiti, and the shops offer the latest 'fast fashion' trends at affordable prices. Experts recommend checking out the 'Free Market' on Saturdays for handmade crafts by local students. Pro tip: For the best busking experience, arrive after 7 PM; if you’re looking for a quiet moment, the nearby Yeonnam-dong area offers a more 'chill' park vibe.
Jokbal Alley (Gongdeok)
Gongdeok's Jokbal Alley is a nostalgic enclave where the smell of braised pork and traditional spices wafts through the air. 'Jokbal' (pig’s trotters) are simmered for hours in a soy-based decoction until the skin is gelatinous and the meat tender. When you order a plate of Jokbal here, most restaurants generously provide free 'Sundaeguk' (blood sausage soup) and 'Sundae' as side dishes. It’s a favorite 'Hoesik' (after-work dinner) spot for locals. Experts recommend wrapping the meat in lettuce with a slice of garlic and fermented shrimp sauce for the perfect bite. Practical pro tip: The portion sizes are huge; a 'Small' is usually enough for two hungry people. Visit after 7 PM to see the alley at its most energetic.
