The Oculus (World Trade Center)
Build a trip to New York City
About
Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Oculus is a transportation hub and shopping mall that serves as a centerpiece of the rebuilt World Trade Center site. Its white-ribbed structure is meant to resemble a bird being released from a child's hands. The interior is a vast, cathedral-like white marble hall that feels incredibly futuristic and bright. Each year on September 11th, the skylight is opened to allow the sun to shine directly through the center. Expert recommendation: Stand at either the east or west balcony for a symmetrical photo of the interior ribs. Pro tip: It is a functional transit hub (PATH trains to NJ), so watch out for fast-moving commuters while you are taking photos. It also connects underground to Brookfield Place for additional high-end dining.

Nearby Attractions
One World Observatory
Perched at the top of the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One World Observatory offers a high-tech viewing experience from floors 100 to 102. The journey begins with the 'SkyPod' elevators, which show a time-lapse of New York’s skyline development over 500 years in under 60 seconds. Unlike other decks, this provides a 360-degree view of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty from a southern perspective. The sensory experience is digital and immersive. Expert recommendation: Spend time at the 'City Pulse' ring where guides share stories about the city's neighborhoods. Pro tip: Because it is entirely indoors, this is the best observation deck choice for rainy or extremely cold days in New York.
Manhatta
Located on the 60th floor of a Financial District skyscraper, Manhatta offers some of the most breathtaking 360-degree views of New York Harbor and the city skyline. Operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, the restaurant pairs sophisticated New American cuisine with a deep wine list. The sensory experience is defined by the sensation of being suspended above the city. Expert recommendation: The 'Tasting Menu' at sunset is a visual and culinary masterclass. Pro tip: Unlike many high-rise venues, the bar at Manhatta is walk-in friendly and offers the same incredible views as the dining room; it’s the perfect spot for a high-end cocktail without the full commitment of a multi-course dinner.

Wall Street & Charging Bull
Wall Street is the historic heart of the Financial District, home to the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall. The 'Charging Bull' bronze sculpture, created by Arturo Di Modica, stands nearby in Bowling Green as a symbol of aggressive financial optimism and prosperity. The area is a dense maze of narrow streets and towering stone canyons. The sensory experience is one of high-stakes energy mixed with colonial history. Expert recommendation: Visit 'Fearless Girl,' which now stands facing the Stock Exchange, for a powerful modern contrast to the Bull. Pro tip: The bull usually has a massive queue for photos; if you arrive before 8:00 AM, you can get a clean shot without the crowds of tourists rubbing the bull’s nose (or other parts) for luck.
The Dead Rabbit
Named after a notorious mid-19th-century Irish street gang, this multi-story establishment in lower Manhattan has been repeatedly voted the best bar in the world. It blends a rough-and-tumble Irish taproom on the ground floor with a sophisticated cocktail 'Parlor' upstairs. The decor is a dense collection of historical artifacts and sawdust-covered floors. The sensory experience is a mix of high-end mixology and boisterous pub energy. Expert recommendation: Their 'Irish Coffee' is world-renowned and arguably the best version in the city. Pro tip: For a quiet, focused cocktail experience, book a reservation in 'The Parlor' well in advance; for a rowdy pint of Guinness and live music, walk into 'The Taproom' at any time.
